Inclusive Excellence and Community Engagement Committee

Supporting and advancing the Carter School to build community, belonging, and inclusive excellence.

Students pose in front of a mural with a definition of inclusion: "a sense of belonging: felling respected, supported, and valued for who you are and (unreadable) ensuring the same for others."

The Carter School’s student body, comprised of peacebuilders from all walks of life, identities, perspectives, and global communities, is one of its greatest strengths. The Inclusive Excellence and Community Engagement Committee provides support, resources, and opportunities for strengthening our inclusive community to support belonging, community-building, and well-being for all students, faculty, staff, and alumni.
With meetings and events open to everyone within the Carter School community, its board of elected members includes undergraduate and graduate students, faculty, staff, and alumni.

The Inclusive Excellence and Community Engagement Committee’s mandate includes:

  • Fostering and supporting a community that promotes the equal representation and treatment of all members of the Carter School community;
  • Supporting initiatives to value and learn from our community’s differences and to promote bridge-building and belonging
  • Promoting opportunities for the Carter School community to develop deeper awareness of and skills to address local and global issues including historical and ongoing injustices, structural violence, power imbalances, and cultures of intolerance; and
  • Serving as a resource for the Carter School community by hosting events, gathering resources for use in classrooms and other spaces, and offering suggestions for finding relevant information.
