Our Tradition
In Fall 2020, the Carter school launched a new tradition to bring together the Carter School community and the broader public in dialogue about peace, conflict resolution, and justice. This inaugural event was birthed out of the recognition of the International Day of Peace, which is recognized every year on September 21st. The Carter School decided to take that recognition a little further with week-long activities and events in the Spring and Fall.
Fall 2025 Peace Week: Bridging Peacebuilding, Development, and Security
Sustainable peace requires more than ending violence—it demands addressing root causes and building systems that promote long-term stability. Bridging peacebuilding, development, and security is essential to this effort. When aligned, these fields offer a comprehensive framework that strengthens institutions, fosters inclusion, and enhances resilience.
The Fall 2025 Peace Week will explore innovative strategies and practices at this critical nexus. Through seminars, workshops, and interactive sessions, participants will engage with integrated approaches that link humanitarian response, conflict resolution, and development planning. Topics will include conflict-sensitive development, local participation, nuclear disarmament, insider reconcilers, and the role of technology in peace efforts.
By bringing together scholars, practitioners, and students, Peace Week aims to inspire cross-sector collaboration and generate solutions for today’s complex global challenges.
