Teaching About Global Conflict and Peacebuilding
As community college populations continue to diversify, the importance of addressing topics such as human rights, war and peace, conflict resolution, social justice, and international relations will be more important than ever before. Are you a community college professional - faculty or administrator - working to promote global education through the consideration of international and domestic conflict and peace issues? If so, then attending this distinctive seminar held annually in Washington, DC can provide you with a better understanding of contemporary issues and the tools to engage your learners.
The National Community College Peacebuilding Seminar is the only Washington, DC based seminar dealing with global conflict issues designed specifically for community college professionals. Since the first seminar in 2013, over 125 professionals from community colleges across the U.S. as well as international educators have attended.
Annually between 20-30 professionals attend. Those attending represent a multidisciplinary array of fields and backgrounds. Participating professionals will be learning from Washington, DC insiders and experts on global issues and peacebuilding including those from the U.S. government, nongovernmental organizations, international organizations, academics, and practitioners. Themes often covered include international affairs, refugees, human rights, social justice, media, dialogue, program development, conflict resolution, culture, and experiential learning. During the seminar, at least one field day is planned to visit local institutions and organizations. The schedule allows for personal time for attendees to visit Washington, DC.
The seminar is open to all interested or working with community college populations including full and part-time faculty, administrators, and graduate students. Internationals can also attend.

As part of the registration fee, each participant will receive either a copy of Peacebuilding in Community Colleges: A Teaching Resource(USIP Press 2013) or Peace Jobs: A Student’s Guide to Starting a Career Working for Peace(Information Age Publishing 2016).
