Four George Mason University students from the Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter School for Peace and Conflict Resolution traveled to Oxford University’s Magdalen College in the United Kingdom with Carter School dean Alpaslan Özerdem for the 2025 Oxford Consortium for Human Rights (OCHR).

23 January 2025 – The Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter School for Peace and Conflict Resolution at George Mason University was appointed as the new United Nations Academic Impact (UNAI) Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) Hub Chair for SDG 16: Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions by the United Nations Academic Impact (UNAI) initiative.

The Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter School for Peace and Conflict Resolution is one of only two U.S. universities to receive the honor.

The Dean of the Carter School, Alpaslan Özerdem, highlights the school's dedication to Carter's principles, including conflict resolution, human rights, health, housing, and social justice in this interview with WTOP.

Today, we bid a final farewell to President Jimmy Carter, a leader whose legacy as a peacemaker, humanitarian, and advocate for justice has left an indelible mark on our world. As we honor his extraordinary life and the profound partnership he shared with Mrs. Rosalynn Carter, we are reminded of his powerful words:
 
"My faith demands that I do whatever I can, wherever I can, whenever I can, for as long as I can, with whatever I have, to try to make a difference."

Susan Allen joined WTOP’s Sarah Jacobs to discuss Carter’s achievements, including being awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 2002.

Charles Chavis, Jr., a professor at George Mason’s Carter School for Peace and Conflict Resolution and the College of Humanities and Social Sciences, as well as the Founder and Director of the John Mitchell, Jr. Program for History, Justice, and Race, will be honored at the Anti-Defamation League (ADL) In Concert Against Hate, which celebrates everyday heroes who speak out against hate and make a difference in their communities.

Today, we celebrate a momentous occasion: the 100th birthday of President Jimmy Carter, a leader whose life has been dedicated to peace, diplomacy, and the betterment of humanity. On behalf of the Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter School for Peace and Conflict Resolution, I am honored to mark this incredible milestone and reflect on the profound impact President Carter has had on the world.

Solon Simmons, professor of conflict and analysis in the Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter School for Peace and Conflict Resolution, enters his first year as the George Mason University Faculty Senate president. At George Mason since 2006, Simmons has been a member of the senate for eight years.
